Save Monza! [21 Mar 2006|10:25pm]

majarvis
To sum it up, the Monza circuit in Italy was built in 1922, and is the oldest track on the F1 calendar. It is the modern equivalent of the Circus Maxximus for the Italians, and the spiritual home of Ferrari.

Anyway, two whining families who moved into houses next to the track, obviously built well after its construction, have taken a complaint to Italian court about the noise from the track, and have caused a ruling to shut the track down, cancelling all events in 2006 except for the Formula One Italian Grand Prix, and jeopardizing future events after this year.

A petition has been created, so please, regardless if you're interested in F1 or not, do it for principles sake; how stupid can someone be to move into a house next to a race track, one of the oldest and most storied race tracks in the world, no less, and then complain about noise... ugh...

Article about the story is here:

Thanks :)

Heidfeld signs long-term deal with BMW [18 Sep 2005|12:03pm]

Germany’s Nick Heidfeld has signed a three-year contract to race for BMW’s new Formula One team from next season, BMW announced on Friday.

Heidfeld, 28, said that the deal represented "the fulfilment of a big dream".

The German carmaker is taking over Swiss-based Sauber from January 2006 and entering their own team after supplying Williams with engines since 2000. Heidfeld is their first signing.

"We are very pleased that Nick will be with us in what will undoubtedly be a difficult initial phase," said BMW motorsport director Mario Theissen.

"He is not simply a fast and courageous driver, he is also an analytical and meticulous worker. Nick already knows the two sites in Munich and Hinwil and is familiar with everybody involved."

There was no word in the statement about Canadian Jacques Villeneuve, the 1997 world champion who has a year to run on his Sauber contract which he expects to be carried over.

Heidfeld’s deal represents the culmination of a remarkable turnaround in the driver’s fortunes and reunites him with old friends after three years at Sauber from 2001 to 2003.

"I’m not expecting a miracle during the first season after a new start in 2006," said Heidfeld. "But I’m confident that the new team will be successful over the long term."

Hi everybody!
My name is Masha and I'm from Russia. I like Nick very very much and I'm really glad I'm not the only one! And not the only one from Russia!! I really hope you will not mind my being in your community:)

I payed attention to nick in 1999 when he won Formula 3000 championship and since that time I've been supporting him. When last year he had to race for Jordan I was so sorry for him and I was so glad that now his career seems to have good prospect! Let us watch him and feel glad for his success.

Hi, my name's Jane and I'm a huge Nick's fan - I've been his fan since he came to F1 in 2000 and it's great to see how well he has been doing this season so far. The past two races were perfect and I'm sure that we can expect him to win a GP even this year (at least I hope so).. I'm always looking forward to communicating with other Nick's fans cause there are not many of us in Russia where I come from. Ok... that's all for now, I guess :)) Cheers and good luck to Nick as to the best driver in F-1!!
PS Nick is cute!!
